Minimum Wage of various categories of semi-skilled,
skilled and highly skilled workers working in 50 types
of establishments as declared by the Sindh Govt.
- The Sindh has notified the Minimum Wages for various categories of semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled workers working in 50 types of establishments in the Province of Sindh at a minimum of Rs. 33,280/= p.m., w.e.f. 01-07-2023 or higher subject to the list published under Section 6(1) (a) of the Sindh Minimum Wages Act, 2015 on the recommendation of its Minimum Wages Board as per the Gazette Notification dated 10-11-2023.
- The Notification is contradictory as it includes categories of employees such as supervisory and above categories who are not workers as under the definition of worker in the Sindh Payment of Wages Act 2015.
- The Notification also provides that other matters shall be regulated by the Sindh Factories Act, 2015 and other relevant Labour Laws.
- This minimum wage declared is inclusive of the basic wage and all other regular allowances whatsoever. If the present wage of any semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled adult male and female worker is higher than this minimum wage declared now, their present wages cannot be reduced. The minimum wages of various designations/categories of workers (semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled) are outlined in the list covering 50 types of establishments and industries. If the prevailing wage for a specific designation/category of workers falls below the stipulated amount for the corresponding industry, it is imperative to adjust and uplift their wages to meet the specified minimum wage.
- Please note that this Notification is a separate Notification specifically for the semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled categories of workers, over and above the Minimum Wages of Rs. 32,000/= p.m. for unskilled workers as Notified by another Notification dated 02-11-2023 (see our circular No. 213 dated 02-11-2023).
- Naturally management action would be required to revise the wages of semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled workers keeping in view of newly announced minimum wages.
- Contributions and other matters under the Social Security and EOB shall be governed by the provisions of these laws.
