Minimum Wage of various categories of semi skilled, skilled and highly skilled workers declared by the Punjab Govt.

The Punjab Govt. has notified the Minimum Wages for various categories of semi skilled, skilled and highly skilled
workers working in 102 types of establishments in the Province of the Punjab at different rates over Rs. 20,000/= p.m. under Section 6 of the Punjab Minimum Wages Act, 2019 on recommendation of its Minimum Wages Board and allowing deductions/adjustment of Rs.248/= p.m. for providing housing accommodation and Rs. 53/= p.m. for providing transport facility as per the Punjab Govt. Gazette Notification dated 30-06-2021 published on 30-06-2021.

The Notification is contradictory as it includes categories of employees such as supervisory and above categories who are not workers.

The Notification also provides that other matters shall be regulated by the Factories Act, 1934, Payment of Wages Act, 1936 and other relevant Labour Laws.

This minimum wage declared is inclusive of basic wage and all other regular allowances whatsoever. If the present wage of any semi skilled, skilled and highly skilled adult male and female worker is higher than this minimum wage declared now, their present wages cannot be reduced.

Please note that this Notification is a separate Notification for the semi skilled, skilled and highly skilled categories of workers, over and above the Minimum Wages of Rs. 20,000/= p.m. as Notified by another Notification dated 30-06-2021 (see our circular No. 186 dated 2-7-2021).

Naturally management action would be required to revise semi skilled, skilled and highly skilled workers keeping in view of the newly announced minimum wage.

Contributions and other matters under the Social Security and EOB shall be governed by the provisions of these laws.
